Seasonal Park Cemetery Laborer

About the role

The City of Marquette is seeking a seasonal Park Cemetery Laborer to maintain turf areas across the cemetery and other city parks. Working under the Arborist Supervisor/Sexton, you will perform physically demanding outdoor tasks from mid‑April through mid‑November.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain all turf areas: irrigate, seed, mow, weed, rake, and shovel.
• Assist other crews with assigned duties and ensure safe work practices.
• Inspect, operate, and clean city equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
• Follow safety protocols, using appropriate personal protective equipment.

Required profile

• Ability to work a flexible schedule for the entire season (up to 40 hours per week).
• Physical strength and dexterity for lifting, carrying, and performing repetitive motions.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Required skills

• Lawn mower operation (push and riding mowers).
• Power tool operation (weed whips, leaf vacs, blowers, sod cutters, power edgers, garden tillers, turf brooms).
• Equipment inspection and basic maintenance.
• Knowledge of safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
