Waste Collection Operations Supervisor

About the role

The Waste Collection Operations Supervisor leads the daily performance of the Waste Collection Division for the City of Dayton. This position ensures efficient operations, timely project completion, and adherence to budgetary constraints while coordinating with other city divisions and community groups.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the Waste Collection Division, including scheduling of collection projects, bulky waste removal, alley cleaning, recycling, and special events.
• Develop short‑range work plans, allocate funds, personnel, equipment, and materials to meet goals and timetables.
• Create and deliver training programs to improve equipment operation, waste‑collection technology, and collection methods.
• Manage operational issues such as equipment breakdowns, employee absenteeism, material shortages, and resource reassignment.
• Collaborate with other city divisions on joint projects and investigate/resolve citizen complaints.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.
• Five years of experience in waste collection or field service operations, with at least three years in a supervisory role.
• Degree from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Valid driver’s license; must obtain an Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 150 days of appointment.
• Ability to pass background investigation, medical examination, drug screen, and nicotine screening.
