Energy Educator

About the role

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Energy Educator leads daily Business Energy Consultations and the Home Energy Assessment Program. The role involves conducting energy assessments for homes and businesses, interfacing with multiple databases, installing energy‑saving devices, and delivering high‑quality customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Travel to residential and commercial sites to perform energy assessments, meet customers, and complete paperwork.
• Use a handheld tablet to record energy‑saving measures, recommendations, and interface with databases.
• Maintain accurate daily supply inventory.
• Communicate project goals and promote a positive image of project partners.
• Document findings such as insulation levels, thermostat type, furnace efficiency, and upload required forms.
• Teach customers low‑ and no‑cost conservation measures (e.g., sealing air leaks, changing furnace filters).
• Refer customers to social‑service programs and help create action plans for energy savings.

Required profile

• Training in weatherization or energy‑efficiency principles and techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with diverse urban populations.
• Strong judgment, safety awareness, and ability to lead and build rapport with customers.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with flexible evenings and weekends.
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, and reach; current Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
• Problem‑solver who can meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
