VP Business Control Unit – Issues & Events

About the role

Santander seeks a Vice President to lead the Business Control Unit for Issues & Events within its Corporate & Investment Bank in the United States. The role focuses on monitoring risk exposure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving remediation across business lines.

Key responsibilities

• Own and lead governance of business issues and operational risk events across CIB US, collaborating with the Issues Management COE to enforce quality standards.
• Identify, classify, document, and promptly escalate operational risk events, assessing financial, client, regulatory, and reputational impacts.
• Produce executive MIS and committee reporting, highlighting status, trends, emerging risks, and required decisions.
• Partner with compliance, legal, internal audit, and second‑line defense to support regulatory inquiries and remediation commitments.

Required profile

• Minimum 9 years of experience in financial services, business controls, operational risk, audit or compliance.
• Proven ability to challenge senior stakeholders, drive remediation programs, and influence decisions without direct authority.
• Strong knowledge of first‑line defense responsibilities, enterprise risk frameworks, internal controls and regulatory expectations.

Required skills

• Quantitative analysis and risk identification.
• Root‑cause analysis, impact assessment and remediation planning.
• Executive‑level risk reporting and presentation.

• Base salary range $130,000 – $180,000 USD per year.
