Telemetry Monitor (PRN) – Patient Heart Rate & Rhythm

About the role

The Telemetry Monitor (PRN) provides continuous monitoring of patients' heart rates and rhythms, promptly communicating any ECG changes to the appropriate department. This position supports exceptional patient care by ensuring timely detection of life‑threatening arrhythmias.

Key responsibilities

• Recognize and report life‑threatening arrhythmias to the appropriate department immediately.
• Maintain visual checks of telemetry monitors and keep accurate logs of patients under observation.
• Interpret basic ECG strips for rate and rhythm and communicate findings clearly.
• Troubleshoot telemetry equipment, collaborate with Biomed and nursing staff on GE telemetry issues, and address artifact problems.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (unless exempt for specific cost centers).
• State certification for ECG or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to work in a patient care environment and adhere to privacy and safety standards.

Required skills

• ECG interpretation (rate and rhythm).
• Operation and maintenance of telemetry monitoring systems, specifically GE telemetry equipment.
• Proficiency with computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication for clear information exchange.
