Tax Auditor III – Vermont Department of Taxes

About the role

The Vermont Department of Taxes is seeking a Tax Auditor III to join its Compliance Division. In this position you will help ensure fair and accurate administration of state tax laws while supporting Vermont’s public mission.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze taxpayer returns for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare assessments and adjustments to reflect correct tax obligations.
• Communicate findings and guidance to taxpayers and their representatives.
• Participate in appeals, settlement discussions, and dispute resolution.
• Conduct on‑site audits when appropriate.
