Software Quality Engineer (Remote)
qualityworksconsulting
Job description
About the role
QualityWorks Consulting Group is hiring a Software Quality Engineer (Test Engineer) to support software quality assurance and AI-powered test automation on a government client engagement. The role validates application changes, integrations, AI-generated test cases and autonomous test execution results, identifies defects and verifies test coverage. It is a hands-on testing role, not a test architecture or technical leadership position, and is remote.
Key responsibilities
- Execute functional, regression, integration, API and exploratory testing.
- Validate AI-generated test cases and autonomous test execution results.
- Identify false positives, false negatives, defects and test coverage gaps.
- Investigate failures using browser developer tools, logs, network requests and API responses.
- Validate application workflows, business rules, integrations and browser compatibility.
- Document defects, track remediation and verify fixes through retesting.
- Maintain test documentation and traceability between requirements, tests, results and defects.
- Follow established automation frameworks, testing standards and runbooks.
- Collaborate with developers, technical leadership and client stakeholders.
- Follow government security, access-control and data-handling requirements, including protecting GFI and CUI where applicable.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 3-5 years of software testing, QA or quality engineering experience.
- Experience with functional, regression, integration, API and exploratory testing.
- Ability to work independently and follow established testing standards, escalating architecture-level decisions appropriately.
- U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust determination and DoD system access, including completing background vetting (e.g., SAAR-N, DD-2875) and security training.
Required skills
- Familiarity with automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright or Cypress.
- Experience evaluating automated test results and distinguishing application defects from test, data or environment issues.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum, Jira or similar defect-tracking tools and cross-browser testing.
- Nice to have: experience with AI-powered or autonomous testing platforms, API testing tools, CI/CD environments, Section 508 accessibility testing and government cybersecurity requirements.
What we offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with competence and experience.
- Referral bonus under the existing referral programme.
