Shelter Staff – Part‑Time Evening Shift

About the role

The Shelter Staff member supports daily operations of an emergency shelter, providing direct assistance to guests experiencing homelessness during the evening shift (Sat‑Sun‑Mon, 2:30 PM‑10:30 PM). The role focuses on intake, orientation, basic‑needs support, and maintaining a safe, respectful environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct guest intake, check‑in belongings, and facilitate timely transitions.
• Provide orientation on shelter expectations and procedures.
• Prepare, serve, and clean up meals and snacks.
• Distribute linens, clothing, hygiene supplies, and assist with showers.
• Supervise guests, de‑escalate conflicts, and ensure safety and security.
• Maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchen, sleeping and common areas, including laundry and sanitizing tasks.
• Inventory and restock kitchen, hygiene, and cleaning supplies.
• Document notes in ShiftNote or other communication systems.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and able to work independently.
• Sound judgment with ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
