Senior SQL DBA (SAP Environments)

About the role

Excelitas Technologies is seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator to join its corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. The role focuses on maintaining high‑availability, secure SQL Server environments that support critical business applications, including SAP workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test and production environments.
• Manage SQL Server clustering, Always On Availability Groups and disaster‑recovery configurations.
• Perform monthly patching, upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues and implement backup and recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure and security teams to ensure compliance and reliability.
• Develop automation scripts, monitoring tools and maintain technical documentation.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and provide after‑hours support as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of hands‑on experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
• Proven experience with SQL Server upgrades, clustering and Always On Availability Groups.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Eligibility to work in the United States (US Person) – no sponsorship available.

Required skills

• Microsoft SQL Server administration and performance tuning.
• SQL Server clustering, Always On Availability Groups.
• Windows Server administration and Active Directory integration.
• PowerShell scripting (preferred).
• Azure SQL or other cloud‑based SQL services (nice‑to‑have).
• Monitoring tools such as SCOM, Redgate, SolarWinds, Idera.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management.
• Familiarity with SAP security (a plus).
