Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Software/Firmware Engineer

About the role

Waabi is seeking a skilled engineer to develop and maintain the software and firmware that power its Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) test benches. You will work closely with embedded, autonomy, and verification teams to ensure reliable, automated testing of autonomous vehicle components.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement software for HIL benches, including test runners, simulation interfaces, fault‑injection tools, and bench control.
• Build simulation pipelines that feed synthetic vehicle dynamics and inject CAN/Ethernet messages to trigger state changes.
• Create automated test frameworks and CI integration to validate firmware releases on real hardware.
• Develop instrumentation and data‑acquisition software for timestamping, analog triggers, and endurance analysis.
• Hands‑on bench work: configure new setups, debug hardware/software interactions, and support cross‑functional test activities.
• Analyze and document test results for hardware, autonomy, and systems engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
• 4+ years of experience developing software for HIL, embedded test automation, or real‑time test systems.
• Strong programming ability in Python and proficiency in C, C++, or Rust for embedded contexts.
• Hands‑on experience with automotive communication interfaces (CAN, automotive Ethernet) and related tooling.
• Proficiency with Linux command‑line workflows and lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, DAQs, power supplies, and electronic loads.
