Senior Software Engineer - Release Engineering

About the role

Everlaw is looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Release Engineering to build, optimize and harden the pipelines and APIs behind its move to an agent-ready release platform. The role is hands-on and execution-heavy, building release pipelines that let humans and AI agents safely and consistently deploy infrastructure and application code. It is a full-time, exempt position in the Oakland, CA office with a hybrid schedule (M/W/Th in the office, Tu/Fr from home).

Key responsibilities

• Dive into Gradle/Bazel configurations and the Java build graph to improve cache hit rates, parallelism and resource utilization in the monorepo.
• Identify and eliminate flaky tests and unstable infrastructure in CI pipelines so green builds are trustworthy.
• Build automations that generate FedRAMP and other audit artifacts from pipelines, reducing manual work and strengthening compliance.
• Migrate logs and build outputs to structured, traceable formats and implement idempotent APIs for future orchestration.
• Use Terraform and Helm to manage infrastructure configuration, health and scaling across environments.
• Lead release engineering projects end-to-end and mentor peers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on Release, DevOps or Platform Engineering in cloud-based systems.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, system design and distributed systems, with a track record of automating operational toil.
• Authorized to work in the United States; Everlaw is not sponsoring U.S. employment visas for this role.

Required skills

• Java or another statically-typed language, with Python and/or Bash scripting.
• Gradle, Bazel or Maven at scale in large codebases.
• Cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) with Terraform or similar IaC tools and modern CI/CD platforms.
• Bonus: OPA, regulated environments (FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC 2), AI coding assistants, Bazel and monorepos, open-source contributions.

• Expected salary range of $188,000-$251,000, plus eligibility for equity.
