Senior Software Engineer (Python, Microservices, Kubernetes)

About the role

Leidos is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to support a long-term DIA-NDOC DOMEX Technology Platform (DTP) contract. The engineer works closely with Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Architects and Operations Engineering/Management on system development, including middle-tier and backend tasks. Most work is on-site at the client location in Bethesda, MD, with a flexible schedule and occasional remote tasks depending on client needs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain Python microservices
• Implement message consumers and producers with Apache Kafka
• Integrate with Elasticsearch for real-time and batch data indexing and querying
• Write unit and integration tests with high code coverage
• Build CI/CD pipelines and deploy services in Kubernetes clusters
• Take part in design discussions, code reviews and architecture planning
• Monitor and troubleshoot production issues with observability tools
• Contribute to technical documentation and share knowledge within the team

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's with 6+ years; experience can count in lieu of a degree
• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a polygraph
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, agile mindset and ability to work independently and in a team

Required skills

• Python and related backend frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
• Docker and Kubernetes (deploying, monitoring and debugging)
• ETL experience
• Linux environment with bash or similar scripting
• RESTful APIs and microservice architecture
• Git, CI/CD tools such as GitLab or Jenkins, and Agile practices

Nice to have: software development kit design, DGX, Active Security+ and PUA certifications, Elasticsearch certifications, large-scale production systems, distributed systems concepts, schema registries, Kafka streaming patterns, AWS and LLM/AI application experience.

Pay range: $107,900 - $195,050.
