Senior Software Engineer, AI Platform

About the role

Everlaw is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, AI Platform to build and operate AI platform capabilities that power user-facing software in complex ecosystems. The work spans retrieval, vector search, model orchestration, evaluation and agentic patterns, alongside search, databases and real-time collaboration, helping customers find the truth in millions of documents. The position is full-time and on-site in Oakland, California, with an expected hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.

Key responsibilities

• Build AI platform capabilities for features such as Deep Dive, predictive coding, multi-modal understanding, agentic workflows, translations, search and review.
• Contribute to RAG, semantic retrieval and agentic orchestration, including indexing pipelines, query flows, tool-calling and planning logic, relevance tuning, benchmarking and multi-modal workloads.
• Work with Product, Platform, Security and DevOps partners to ship features in production.
• Help scale the system to larger datasets with hundreds of millions of documents.
• Mentor other engineers, review code, fix defects and provide on-call support.
• Contribute to engineering and platform documentation and take part in technical interviews.

Required profile

• BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent coursework.
• At least 4 years of experience building distributed systems in the cloud with service-based architecture and frontend frameworks, and experience testing, maintaining and launching cloud software.
• At least 1 year of experience leading or coordinating multi-developer efforts.
• Practical experience with AI/ML-powered systems such as retrieval pipelines, semantic search, agentic pipelines, document classification or LLM-integrated features.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C, C++, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, Go or Rust.
• Knowledge of algorithms, relational databases, API design and UI building.
• Experience with AI development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code.
• Nice to have: AWS, MySQL, Postgres, vector or graph databases, and LLMOps.
