Senior Lead M&A Consultant
mmc · New York - 1166
Job description
About the role
Marsh is looking for a Senior Lead M&A Consultant to join its HR M&A Advisory Services team within the People and Investments business. The role is based in New York City or Chicago and is hybrid, with at least three days a week in the office or on site with clients. It is a management consulting position leading the human capital agenda on major corporate and private equity transactions.
Key responsibilities
- Orchestrate sales and delivery across Marsh's Health and Benefits, Investments and Retirement, Workforce and Rewards and Global Benefits Management businesses so clients get one integrated experience.
- Originate and expand work with corporate development teams and private equity sponsors, owning revenue, margin and delivery quality.
- Own the human capital agenda end to end on acquisitions, divestitures, carve-outs, joint ventures and private equity deals, turning people questions into a value case, synergy plan and integration roadmap.
- Advise CHROs, CFOs and deal teams on transaction pace, managing data, risks, timelines and interdependencies.
- Use AI to speed data room reviews, model workforce costs and synergies, and turn repeatable diligence work into practice accelerators.
- Coach teams on AI-enabled delivery, review standards and source verification, and lead and develop consultants and engagement managers.
Required profile
- 12+ years of professional services experience leading transactions rather than supporting them.
- Demonstrated management consulting capability and executive presence with CHRO, CFO and private equity audiences.
- Working fluency with AI in delivery, including accuracy, source verification and client data handling.
- Working knowledge of the M&A lifecycle and core HR disciplines (total rewards, benefits, HR technology, workforce planning).
- Commercial ownership, including origination, proposal leadership and accountability for revenue and margin.
- Ability to build and lead teams in a matrixed environment and willingness to travel.
Required skills
- Hands-on use of AI tools such as prompting, scripting and agentic workflows.
- HRIS and people data fluency (Workday, SuccessFactors or equivalent).
- Depth in areas such as pensions, equity and change-in-control exposure, benefit plan design or workforce cost modeling.
- Cross-border experience (works councils, TUPE, collective bargaining, multi-jurisdictional separations) and carve-out depth (transition service agreements, Day 1 readiness).
- Professional certifications such as CCP, GRP, CEBS, PROSCI or PMP, and an MBA or other advanced degree.
What we offer
- Base salary range of $169,000 to $338,500, with possible performance-based incentives.
- Health and welfare benefits, tuition assistance, 401K and other retirement programs, and employee assistance programs.
- Professional development, a vibrant and inclusive culture, and hybrid work with at least three days a week in the office.
