RN Specialist – PRN Endoscopy 7a – 5:30p – Vary Start

About the role

The RN Specialist provides comprehensive nursing care for patients in the Endoscopy unit at Akron General Medical Center. Working under the Endoscopy Manager, you will manage patient care throughout pre‑op, intra‑op and post‑op phases, and may be cross‑trained to assist in related areas such as OR, radiology and decontamination.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patients for endoscopic procedures, assess vital signs and complete admission documentation.
• Support physicians during procedures, operate endoscopy equipment, label specimens and communicate with anesthesia providers.
• Ensure patient stability for safe discharge and complete post‑operative documentation.
• Maintain equipment sterility, assist with decontamination and sterilization processes.
• Participate in continuous learning, identify unsafe practices and contribute to solutions.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program.
• Current Ohio RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications (within 6 months of hire).
• Minimum two years of nursing experience, preferably with recent endoscopy exposure.
• Membership in a professional nursing society is preferred.

• Operation of endoscopy equipment and related instrumentation.
• Patient assessment and vital sign monitoring.
• Accurate clinical documentation and specimen labeling.
• BLS and ACLS proficiency.
