RN - Acute Care Oncology

About the role

The Acute Care Oncology RN provides direct nursing care to cancer patients on the 5400 Oncology Unit at Akron General Medical Center. This night shift position (7:00 pm‑7:30 am) involves patient assessment, treatment administration, and education.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for oncology patients.
• Administer treatments, medications and chemotherapy, documenting all care activities.
• Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes, and respond appropriately.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient and family outcomes.
• Delegate tasks, serve as a resource, and pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Diploma, ADN or BSN).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Willingness to work nights, every other weekend and three holidays per year.

Required skills

• RN clinical skills in oncology and chemotherapy administration.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Physical ability to lift patients and handle equipment.
