RN Specialist Endoscopy

About the role

The RN Specialist Endoscopy provides comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures at Akron General Medical Center. Working under the Endoscopy Manager, the RN ensures patient safety, supports physicians, and manages unit operations across multiple areas.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patients for endoscopy, assess pre‑op status, and complete admission documentation.
• Support physicians during procedures, operate endoscopic equipment, label specimens, and communicate with anesthesia providers.
• Monitor patients post‑procedure, ensure stable discharge criteria, and complete post‑operative documentation.
• Cross‑train and function in related areas such as OR for ERCPs, radiology for bronchoscopies, and equipment decontamination.
• Maintain compliance with unit policies, confidentiality, and mandatory training requirements.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
• Current Ohio RN license.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• Minimum two years of nursing experience.
• Ability to work days 7:00 am‑5:30 pm with on‑call duties including weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• Proficiency with endoscopy equipment and specimen handling.
• Accurate clinical documentation and charting.
