Registered Respiratory Therapist – NICU

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Akron General NICU is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to join a collaborative, patient‑centered team. You will work night shifts, providing advanced respiratory care to critically ill neonates and infants while operating at the top of your license.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cardiopulmonary assessments, physical exams, and interpret radiologic, blood gas, and pulmonary function data.
• Manage invasive and non‑invasive mechanical ventilators, artificial airways, and perform arterial line insertion and blood gas sampling.
• Administer medical gases, aerosolized medications, and conduct bronchial hygiene and lung re‑inflation techniques.
• Assist with bronchoscopy procedures, respond to emergencies, and participate in trauma and resuscitation.
• Provide patient and family education, serve as a preceptor for new staff, and document care according to protocols.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification and Ohio Respiratory Care Professional license.
• Current BLS and either PALS, NRP, or Neonatal Pediatric Specialist certification as appropriate.
• Prior critical‑care experience preferred; Bachelor’s degree and neonatal/pediatric experience are a plus.

Required skills

• Ventilator management (invasive and non‑invasive).
• Arterial line insertion and blood gas analysis.
• Bronchoscopy assistance and tracheostomy tube changes.
• Use of medical gases and aerosolized medication delivery systems.
