Registered Nurse - Per Diem

About the role

Stony Brook Emergency Physicians, UFPC is hiring a Registered Nurse for a per diem schedule in Commack, NY. The nurse delivers high-quality, individualized direct patient care and supervises auxiliary personnel helping with patient care. The schedule is open seven days with variable hours.

Key responsibilities

• Collect clinical data accurately, perform clinical interventions and report abnormalities to the Medical Provider
• Triage patient phone calls and troubleshoot medication management issues
• Answer phones, assemble charts, register patients, make appointments, enter and retrieve data
• Develop and organize a plan of care with the treating physician and set priorities to meet patient needs
• Document patient care accurately in the medical record and coordinate accommodations such as sign language interpreters
• Ensure timely, appropriate care and facilitate internal and external referrals
• Administer medications, treatments and contrast agents per physician orders and document them
• Maintain infection control precautions and give in-service education to the interdisciplinary team
• Take part in quality assurance, annual recertification, compliance and HIPAA training, and follow patient rights and confidentiality policies

Required profile

• Associate's degree in Nursing; New York State BSN in 10 Law requires attaining a Bachelor's in Nursing or higher within 10 years of initial licensure (current RNs and those enrolled in a nursing program are grandfathered)
• Current registration as a Licensed Registered Nurse in New York State
• Excellent communication skills
• Active, mobile work environment around patients, staff and providers

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
