Medical Assistant

About the role

Stony Brook Internists, UFPC (Clinical Practice Management) is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant in Commack, NY, working Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM. The Medical Assistant supports physicians and other clinical staff by performing routine clinical and clerical work.

Key responsibilities

• Admit patients to examination rooms and document medications, vitals and reason for the visit in the electronic medical record.
• Perform screening and measurement procedures such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
• Set up and prepare patients and equipment for exams and special procedures.
• Collect blood and other laboratory specimens and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Enter proposed orders into the electronic medical record for provider review and approval, and obtain previous test results from outside labs and radiology.
• Explain treatments, medications, diets and physician instructions clearly to patients.
• Clean and sterilize instruments, maintain medical inventory and keep exam rooms clean.
• Follow patient flow and visit completion protocols, and handle administrative tasks such as answering phones and scheduling appointments.
• Ensure HIPAA and OSHA guidelines are followed at all times.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette.
• Ability to keep organized systems that ensure timely patient flow.
• Active work in the office assisting patients, staff and providers.

Required skills

• Computer and/or EMR experience.
• Medical terminology.

Compensation is listed as $20.28 to $25.34, varying with experience, education and market conditions.
