Medical Assistant - Advanced Immediate Care Clinic

About the role

Stony Brook Clinical Practice Management (CPMP) is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Advanced Immediate Care Ambulatory Clinic in Commack, NY. The position is full time, on rotating days and evenings plus every other weekend, and supports physicians and other clinical staff with routine clinical and clerical work.

Key responsibilities

• Place patients in examination rooms and document medications, vitals and reason for visit in the electronic medical record.
• Perform screening and measuring procedures such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
• Set up and prepare patients and equipment for exams and special procedures.
• Collect blood and other laboratory specimens and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Enter proposed orders into the electronic medical record for provider review and approval, and obtain previous test results from outside labs and radiology.
• Explain treatments, medications, diets and physician instructions clearly to patients.
• Clean and sterilize instruments, maintain medical inventory and keep exam rooms clean.
• Follow patient flow and visit completion protocols, and handle administrative tasks such as answering phones and scheduling appointments.
• Ensure HIPAA and OSHA guidelines are followed at all times.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette.
• Ability to keep organized systems that ensure timely patient flow.
• Active role moving around the office to assist patients, staff and providers.

Required skills

• Computer and/or EMR experience.
• Medical terminology.

Compensation is listed as $20.28 - $25.34, varying with experience, education and market conditions.
