Porter – Nutrition Dietetics

About the role

The Porter supports the Nutrition/Dietetics department at Akron General Medical Center by performing cleaning, dishwashing, and food‑service logistics. The role works 1st or 2nd shift on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays, and contributes to a safe, sanitary environment for patients and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, floors, and work areas following “clean‑as‑you‑go” policies.
• Operate, assemble, disassemble and maintain the dish machine, ensuring proper temperature, chemicals and water levels.
• Transport clean wares, supplies, prepared meals, and patient food carts throughout the facility.
• Receive, store, inventory and distribute food and food‑service supplies, preparing unit orders and monitoring stock levels.
• Operate garbage disposal, trash compactor, grease filter machine, and wet‑vac equipment safely.

Required profile

• Minimum three months of experience in a similar porter or food‑service role.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred; dietary experience is a plus.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift 50‑60 lb, and work with water and cleaning chemicals.
• Basic math skills to verify invoices and inventory counts.
