Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Med/Surg & Post‑Op Surgery

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works on the Parkview III Complex Medical Care unit at Fairview Hospital, providing supportive care to post‑operative patients across a range of surgical specialties. This full‑day position (6:30 am – 7:00 pm) offers opportunities for education, skill development, and career advancement within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with vital signs, weight, personal care, activities of daily living, and patient transfers/transport.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing, pulse oximetry, dressing changes, and apply/remove external monitoring devices.
• Report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to the supervising RN.
• Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms.
• Support patients with urinary Foley catheter removal and other basic procedures.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained during new‑hire period if not already held).
• Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an eighth‑grade level.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Service Technician is considered.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification (preferred).
