Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Med/Surg

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant will work on the 6100 Medical Floor of Union Hospital, providing direct care to adult patients with chronic illnesses and post‑operative needs. This part‑time, rotating‑shift position supports a collaborative team of nurses and caregivers in a community‑focused, not‑for‑profit hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with vital signs, weight, personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and patient transfers.
• Perform basic clinical tasks such as pulse oximetry, point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, applying monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report any abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to the supervising RN.
• Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained during the new‑hire period if not already held).
• Ability to perform full‑body motions, lift patients, and stand for extended periods.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Service Technician is a plus.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification (preferred).
