Patient Care Assistant – Medical Oncology (Full-Time, P‑Shift)

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) works under the supervision of a licensed nurse to provide direct patient care in the Medical Oncology unit of Phelps Health Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Follow hospital policies for patient safety, infection prevention, and safe handling.
• Perform basic patient care tasks such as vital signs, glucometer checks, toileting, feeding, bathing, and activity assistance.
• Collaborate with nursing staff to respond quickly to patient requests and ensure a safe environment.
• Document all patient care activities accurately to support clinical decision‑making.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to the care team to improve outcomes.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of related experience preferred; training provided for less experienced candidates.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lb and perform frequent walking, standing, and other physical tasks.
• Capacity for considerable mental concentration and ability to work in a setting with potential exposure to infectious materials.

Required skills

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential in Missouri (preferred).
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire (training provided).
