Patient Access Representative – Bayou Region

About the role

The Patient Access Representative greets patients and guests courteously, both in person and by phone, and manages the scheduling, registration, and admission processes. This frontline position ensures accurate patient data collection, insurance verification, and point‑of‑service collections while upholding confidentiality and delivering exceptional customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients and guests, answer phone calls, and initiate appointment scheduling or admission.
• Collect and verify patient identification, demographic, and insurance information for accurate billing.
• Perform point‑of‑service collections, explain insurance benefits, and collect co‑pays, deductibles, and self‑pay amounts.
• Balance cash drawer, prepare deposit slips, and close cash at shift end.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local billing regulations and privacy standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or customer‑service environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and handle high‑stress situations professionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payer guidelines, and billing regulations.
• Clerical and technical skills for accurate record‑keeping and financial analysis.
