Parks & Recreation Director – City of Laredo

About the role

The City of Laredo is seeking a visionary Parks & Recreation Director to lead its municipal parks and recreation department. This senior leader will shape community wellness by overseeing diverse facilities, programs, and capital projects that enhance quality of life for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all parks and recreation operations, including facility management, special events, and capital improvement projects.
• Lead and develop large, multidisciplinary teams while fostering a servant‑leadership culture.
• Engage with residents, elected officials, and community stakeholders to align services with public needs.
• Manage budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation for department initiatives.
• Promote best management practices and innovative programming to increase participation and satisfaction.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Recreation Administration, Leisure Services, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in parks and recreation program administration, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Residency in Laredo required within a reasonable period after appointment.
• Ability to obtain a Texas driver’s license within six months if holding an out‑of‑state license.
