Paramedic - Emergency Department, PRN

About the role

The Paramedic provides emergency treatment and advanced life support to patients in the Emergency Department of Union Hospital, working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Key responsibilities

• Provide emergency treatment and advanced life support under RN supervision.
• Obtain and record vital signs, perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy, and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, saline locks, and notify RN/physician of rhythm changes.
• Apply orthopaedic appliances, splints, size crutches and assist with equipment setup such as chest tubes, gastric lavage, and lumbar puncture.

Required profile

• Completion of an accredited EMS‑Paramedic training program and current Ohio EMTP licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (upon hire or within one year).
• Clinical experience through EMS paramedic training.

Required skills

• EKG acquisition and interpretation.
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced cardiac life support.
• Phlebotomy and specimen transport.
• Cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and saline lock insertion.
