Outpatient Phlebotomist – Destrehan Lab

About the role

The Outpatient Phlebotomist supports patient care by performing phlebotomy procedures, processing specimens, and assisting with laboratory functions in the Destrehan Lab. This position works closely with clinical staff to ensure accurate specimen handling and timely results.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct venipuncture and other phlebotomy procedures safely and efficiently.
• Process, accession, and distribute specimens according to lab protocols.
• Enter patient and specimen data into computer systems with accuracy.
• Resolve specimen‑related issues and support departmental goals.
• Adapt communication style to respect patient privacy and preferences.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a phlebotomy course is preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel between facilities as needed.
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication.
• Willingness to comply with federal, state, and local regulations and accreditation standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency in venipuncture and phlebotomy techniques.
• Computer literacy with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry dexterity.
• Knowledge of specimen handling, accessioning, and laboratory workflow.
