Nurse Manager - Neonatal ICU

About the role

The Nurse Manager will lead the Neonatal ICU at Akron General Medical Center, overseeing patient care, staff development, and quality outcomes in a 14‑bed Level III NICU.

Key responsibilities

• Manage professional nursing practice and delivery of care on the NICU unit.
• Provide clinical supervision, establish nursing direction, and maintain quality and patient‑care standards.
• Identify and resolve issues affecting patient care delivery.
• Develop and implement quality initiatives, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise, evaluate, and develop nursing staff; handle hiring, termination, and performance reviews.
• Maintain compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory standards.
• Coordinate unit operations with other departments and manage budgets, purchases, and inventory.

Required profile

• Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) with focus on neonatal or perinatal care.
• Current state RN licensure.
• Minimum three years recent clinical nursing experience, including at least one year in healthcare management.
• Strong clinical expertise in neonatal care and demonstrated leadership abilities.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Experience with NICU equipment such as CPAP, conventional ventilators, jet ventilators, oscillators, and full‑body cooling systems.
