Motorcoach Mechanic

About the role

Alaska Coach Tours is hiring motorcoach mechanics in Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Sitka and Anchorage. The position reports to the Fleet Manager and is seasonal or permanent full-time. During the operating season you perform scheduled services and repairs to motor coaches, vans, service trucks and shop tools; major repairs are done during the off season.

Key responsibilities

• Change oils, fluids and filters, carry out lube jobs and minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tires and fixing leaks.
• Perform year-round maintenance and repairs including diesel engines, air brakes, air suspension, chassis, electrical systems, transmissions, air conditioning and body repairs.
• Review daily vehicle reports submitted by drivers and troubleshoot and fix issues arising in day-to-day operation.
• Work with the shop foreman to identify mechanical defects and set up a routine repair system, and to handle projects on time and within budget.
• Keep open communication with the Fleet Manager, operations team and drivers about vehicle maintenance and safety.
• Follow Federal and State DOT regulations, complete paperwork accurately and on time, and adapt quickly to out-of-the-normal-schedule situations such as vehicle breakdowns.

Required profile

• Prior experience or formal training in maintaining and repairing diesel engines, air brakes, chassis and electrical systems on heavy equipment and preferably motor coaches.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record (no more than one moving violation or at-fault accident in the last three years); DUI, DWI or negligent driving disqualifies applicants.
• Able to lift 50 lbs and work in harsh weather for long hours on a variable schedule.
• Willingness to undergo pre-employment, random, post-accident and just-cause drug and alcohol testing.
• Preferred: Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements and at least 2 years of motorcoach driving experience in Alaska; CDL training may be provided.
