Mental Health Specialist – Pediatric Psychiatry

The Psychiatry Unit provides behavioral health and mental health crisis stabilization for children and adolescents. As a Mental Health Specialist you will facilitate structured programming and support patients on their path to wellness.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the direction of an RN.
• Facilitate structured programming based on the milieu needs of pediatric patients.
• Assist in milieu management and plan group programming such as gross‑motor, psycho‑educational and recreational groups.
• Create a caring environment by setting clear boundaries and encouraging positive social and coping skills.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team, sharing clinical observations.
• Communicate effectively using non‑judgmental listening techniques.
• Document patient behavior, interventions and responses in Epic.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or Child Development.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• NAPPI certification upon hire.
• General knowledge of CBT, DBT, trauma‑informed care and related interventions.
• Understanding of lifespan development, abnormal psychology and therapeutic processes.
• Preferred: prior mental health experience and group facilitation experience.
