Medical Lab Scientist

About the role

Phelps Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform clinical testing across multiple disciplines, ensuring accurate and timely results for patient care. The role involves interpreting results, maintaining quality standards, and supporting both in‑house and reference laboratory operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and esoteric testing in hematology, immunology, microbiology, clinical microscopy, chemistry, coagulation, and blood banking.
• Review and document quality control results, investigate failures, and implement corrective actions.
• Prioritize workload, manage shift hand‑offs, and ensure critical results are communicated to providers.
• Assist in training new staff, updating procedures, and maintaining compliance with accrediting agencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field.
• Certification such as MT, MLS, M, C, H, or BB preferred; must meet CMS technical supervisor requirements.
• No prior experience required for a registered MLS; non‑registered candidates need at least one year of clinical laboratory experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in hematology, immunology, microbiology, clinical microscopy, chemistry, coagulation, and blood banking techniques.
• Ability to perform reagent reconstitution, storage, and analyzer troubleshooting.
• Strong attention to mental and visual detail for sustained periods.
• Physical ability to transport specimens and lift up to 20 lb.
