Mechanical Engineer I

About the role

Carnegie Robotics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join an interdisciplinary team developing reliable robotic and automation systems for commercial and R&D applications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engineering tasks across the product lifecycle, from concept development to field support.
• Develop requirements with customers, create CAD models (SolidWorks), and design mechanisms with multiple degrees of freedom.
• Identify mechanical risks and conduct analysis using hand calculations, Python scripts, FEA (Ansys) and CFD simulations.
• Create GD&T drawings, work with suppliers on manufacturability, and prototype using in‑house tools.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, and systems engineers, and test components in on‑site labs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related engineering.
• Experience designing integrated mechanisms and electronics, and working with cross‑functional teams.
• Strong personal accountability, ability to work independently, and authorization to work in the US.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (CAD)
• Ansys (FEA) and CFD simulation tools
• Python scripting for analysis
• GD&T drawing creation and BOM management
• Mechanical analysis of bearing life, motor loads, material selection, and load cases
