Mechanical Contractor HVAC Technician

About the role

Meijer is hiring an HVAC technician in Lansing who will improve, maintain and repair all equipment used in manufacturing and distribution functions by troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues. The role also covers installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures in line with relevant codes.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on equipment used in manufacturing and distribution.
• Install, maintain and repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures according to applicable codes.
• Work collaboratively with Meijer leadership.

Required profile

• Formal apprenticeship completion and/or journeyman master certification; mechatronics certifications for levels 1-7 completed.
• 5-7 years of hands-on manufacturing maintenance and electrical systems experience; previous food manufacturing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of SQF, GMPs, LOTO and Lean Manufacturing.
• For employees without a license: successful completion of the apprentice program including the Level 3 skills assessment, plus at least 4 years' experience in skilled trades or maintenance with strong mechanical and electrical skills.
• State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor license covering 31 Limited and Unlimited Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service, or 5 years' HVAC-R experience approved by leadership.
• Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems and preventive maintenance programs.
• Application of electrical testing devices and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues.
• Working knowledge of electrical component maintenance and repair, and of ammonia/HVAC and refrigerant systems.
• Effective communication of technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Proficiency with office tools such as MS Office.
