About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Market Grille Cook in its Market Grille department in Kearney. The cook prepares fresh, hot and cold menu items from prep to plate, keeps the food case stocked and makes sure every order is prepared with care. The role suits someone who enjoys a fast-paced kitchen environment and takes pride in quality food.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers by name and making interactions positive
• Prepare cooking surfaces and all menu items, including vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods and heat-and-eat varieties
• Place food in hot cases, monitor amounts and refill as needed during the shift
• Know all menu items, take guest orders and prepare items for upcoming shifts
• Maintain a thorough understanding of the Market Grille operation and practice proper sanitation, keeping the work area clean and organized
• Order product and supplies or notify managers of needs, and work as a team with co-workers
• Assist in other parts of the store as needed and take on special projects
• Follow personal hygiene, dress standards and store policies, and report to work on time

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; training is provided
• Able to solve practical problems, follow and give directions, and perform simple math and accurate counting
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, and exposure to heat and burn hazards from cooking equipment
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards, and to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending

The work environment is fast-paced and on your feet throughout the shift, with warm and cool conditions, dampness, equipment noise and vibration, and daily exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
