LPN – Surgical Orthopedics – Irregular Part‑Time

About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct patient care on the surgical orthopedics unit at Phelps Health Hospital. This irregular part‑time position supports patient safety, medication administration, and education for patients and families.

Key responsibilities

• Follow hospital policies on infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notification to ensure a safe environment.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and deliver patient and family teaching within the Practical Nurse Scope of Practice.
• Conduct ongoing patient assessments, document care activities, and communicate findings to physicians and the care team.
• Collaborate with supervising RN or Shift Manager to meet all patient needs and delegate tasks appropriately.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
• Current LPN license in Missouri (or compact licensure) – graduates must obtain licensure within 90 days.
• One year of nursing experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lb, stand, walk, and perform frequent physical tasks.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
