Line Cook

About the role

Alvarado Street Brewery is looking for a Line Cook for its Oldtown Salinas location, reporting to the Kitchen Manager. The cook prepares hot and cold food to the standards set by the executive chef and sous chef, supports the kitchen manager's protocols and processes, and works an hourly full-time or part-time schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare menu items such as soups, sauces and salads as directed by the chefs
• Discuss daily events and the production schedule with the chefs and suggest improvements to food quality and presentation
• Follow recipes and portion-control guidelines carefully, keeping portions, cuts and amounts consistent
• Add garnishes, arrange cooked food attractively on plates and time cooking so entrees finish together
• Maintain a clean, orderly station, clean cooking surfaces and equipment, and rotate food in coolers and dry storage to reduce waste
• Contribute to the daily food order list with the chef's approval and help keep the work environment safe and healthy

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 1 year of culinary experience in a restaurant, resort or hotel
• Valid ServSafe food handling certification
• Able to stand and work on feet for long periods, lift up to 50+ pounds and work in a busy, sometimes noisy and hot environment

Required skills

• Hot and cold food preparation and sanitation
• Good knife skills
• Ability to read and follow written English instructions
