Lead Medical Technologist

About the role

The Lead Medical Technologist will guide a laboratory team at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, ensuring high‑quality testing, compliance with regulations, and continuous education of staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and oversee laboratory testing, maintaining compliance with CLIA and quality control policies.
• Maintain instruments, calibrate equipment, and document all quality activities.
• Identify and resolve technical problems, notifying supervisors as needed.
• Provide training, orientation, and continuing education for technologists, students, and residents.
• Validate and verify new assays, write technical procedures, and support implementation of new tests.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• 2–3 years of laboratory experience performing non‑waived testing (full‑time or equivalent part‑time).
• Demonstrated technical and theoretical knowledge of clinical laboratory functions.

Required skills

• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification or eligibility for ASCP certification.
• Proficiency with instrument calibration, quality control, and CLIA regulations.
• Experience in assay validation/verification and technical procedure development.
