Lab Assistant – Night Shift (7 on / 7 off)

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant supports the clinical laboratory by performing specimen collection, processing, and basic testing on a night shift schedule (7 days on, 7 days off). The role involves direct interaction with patients and handling of blood, body fluids, and other specimens in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect specimens, receive and process orders, and perform patient testing and specimen set‑up.
• Operate centrifuges, aliquot, label, and distribute specimens to appropriate test sites.
• Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures, maintain equipment, and document quality‑control activities.
• Order, inventory, and stock laboratory supplies while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience working in a controlled environment with safety measures for chemicals, blood‑borne pathogens, and hazardous waste.
• Current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant (or Trainee) license; license must be obtained within 180 days of hire if hired as a trainee.
• Ability to work independently, manage stress, and maintain professional conduct in a patient‑care setting.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques.
• Operation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and LIS (Laboratory Information System).
• Computer proficiency with Windows applications, data entry, and laboratory software.
• Basic math calculations and color‑vision acuity for accurate labeling and testing.
