Patient Access Representative – North Shore Region

About the role

The Patient Access Representative greets patients and guests, handles appointment scheduling, check‑in, and admission processes while ensuring accurate data collection and confidentiality. The role also manages point‑of‑service collections and insurance verification to support patient satisfaction and proper reimbursement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous customer service to patients, guests, and families in person or via telephone.
• Create, activate, and complete patient scheduling, registration, and admission, ensuring all required forms are accurate.
• Gather and input demographic and financial information, explain insurance benefits, and collect co‑pays, deductibles, and self‑pay amounts.
• Perform financial analysis of each case, inform patients of their financial responsibility, and balance cash drawer daily.
• Verify insurance electronically, by phone, or through web applications and cross‑train to support multiple functions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or related customer‑service environment.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and handle high‑stress situations professionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
• Computer skills for accurate data retrieval and entry.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payer guidelines, and billing regulations.
