Junior Software Engineer (Hybrid)

About the role

Ascend Analytics is looking for a Junior Software Engineer based in Boulder, CO or Raleigh, NC, on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote). The role builds software solutions and analytics that support renewable and battery storage power providers worldwide. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and candidates are contacted directly when openings arise.

Key responsibilities

• Build and ship features across the SaaS platform, taking real tickets from day one and owning them from design through deployment.
• Write clean, tested, well-documented code and refactor it for better performance, stability and scalability.
• Develop automatic tests and help keep the codebase healthy.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, triage bugs and improve the reliability of the systems powering analytics products.
• Work with analysts and data scientists to integrate, generalize and prototype mathematical and data science models in production software.
• Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and take part in technical design reviews, sprint planning and standups.

Required profile

• BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Data/Information Science, Mathematics or a related field, with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Demonstrated software coding experience in one or more of the listed languages, including object-oriented design.
• Strong background in programming related to applied mathematical, engineering and physical sciences.
• Team player willing to learn, with good interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Backend: Python, SQL, SAS, C#; frontend: React.
• Preferred: full-stack experience, SQL Server, Oracle or PostgreSQL, and knowledge of wholesale electricity markets.
