Junior Cybersecurity Engineer

About the role

Brooksource is seeking an entry‑level Junior Cybersecurity Engineer to join a banking client in Columbus, OH. The position is part of a professional development program that provides technical and professional training, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and support security tools and technologies, including next‑generation firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti‑virus and web application firewalls.
• Assist in the evaluation, design and implementation of security solutions following change‑control processes.
• Participate in day‑to‑day operations of the security engineering team and associated appliances.
• Research, evaluate and recommend security hardware, software and tools to improve the enterprise security posture.
• Develop and maintain documentation for procedures and system changes.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security Architecture and Operations teams on projects and releases.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of experience in production support or design of cyber security technologies, or equivalent coursework, internships or academic projects.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent transferable experience.
• Inquisitive, self‑motivated and able to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Java, Python or VBScript.
• Working knowledge of SIEM or SIM platforms.
• Familiarity with NGFWs, IDS/IPS, anti‑virus solutions and web application firewalls.
