Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Mapping

About the role

The Mapping team at Waabi builds the spatial intelligence that powers our autonomous fleet. As a Senior or Staff Software Engineer you will be a versatile builder of our AI‑driven, highly scalable mapping infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust, scalable pipelines for creating, validating, maintaining, and visualizing massive mapping data.
• Develop APIs and real‑time, high‑availability services that serve HD maps to perception, motion planning, and simulation components.
• Architect the long‑term mapping infrastructure, ensuring fault tolerance and observability across the stack.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers and research scientists using an AI‑first approach.
• Build distributed, low‑latency systems that run on a fleet of self‑driving vehicles.

Required profile

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with at least 5 years of industry experience.
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals and ability to quickly learn domain concepts such as 3D geometry and spatial data structures.
• Proven experience delivering production‑quality, fault‑tolerant software at scale.
• Hands‑on experience building distributed systems on modern cloud platforms.
• Ability to work across languages, bridging high‑level Python development with systems‑level C++ or Rust.
