Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Localization

About the role

Waabi is a leader in Physical AI, building autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The Localization team solves the critical problem of determining a vehicle’s precise pose in real time. As a Senior or Staff Software Engineer you will be the domain expert designing robust state‑estimation systems that keep our vehicles safe and accurate, even in GPS‑denied environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise multi‑sensor fusion algorithms using IMU, LiDAR, Radar, Camera, GNSS and wheel encoders.
• Architect mathematical models for factor‑graph optimisation, Kalman filters and related techniques.
• Develop low‑latency Rust code that runs on vehicle compute devices in real time.
• Collaborate with Perception and Mapping teams to integrate map data and semantic landmarks.
• Build rigorous evaluation frameworks to measure localisation accuracy, integrity and fault tolerance across simulation and physical test tracks.

Required profile

• BS, MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace/Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of industry experience.
• Deep expertise in probabilistic robotics, state estimation and 3D geometry, including SLAM and point‑cloud registration.
• Proven track record deploying complex state‑estimation algorithms on real autonomous vehicles.
