Instrument Specialist II

About the role

The Instrument Specialist II ensures surgical instrumentation is consistently available and ready for procedures at Akron General Medical Center. This position coordinates equipment distribution, oversees repairs and procurement, and serves as a liaison between Sterile Processing leadership and OR service line managers.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, process, and place instrument and equipment orders for OR Nurse Managers and clinical stakeholders.
• Monitor tray assembly, instrument stock levels, and recommend improvements or purchases.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and loaner equipment logistics.
• Participate in tray standardization and missing instrument procedures.
• Assist leadership with special projects and budget preparation.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or CSPDT certification.
• Five years of related experience in sterile processing, OR, or surgical technology.
• Physical ability to lift 20‑30 lb items and push carts up to 200 lb.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems such as Oracle.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
