Institutional Review Board Coordinator

About the role

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Coordinator supports the Human Subjects Research Protections Program at Texas A&M University‑Corpus Christi. Reporting to the Director of Research Compliance, the role ensures that all research involving human participants complies with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform protocol pre‑review, determine IRB applicability, and evaluate completeness of submissions.
• Provide guidance to investigators, develop submission templates, and conduct one‑on‑one consults.
• Manage IRB administrative tasks: onboarding members, scheduling meetings, maintaining rosters, and recording minutes.
• Maintain IRB registrations, oversee the protocol management software, and ensure accurate documentation.
• Conduct routine monitoring of approved studies, address non‑compliance, and coordinate training programs for the campus community.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience in research compliance, legal, or a related field.
• Strong ability to prioritize submissions, meet review time metrics, and interpret regulatory instructions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using Cayuse research compliance software.
• Knowledge of IRB regulations, FERPA, PPRA, and related human‑subjects protection standards.
