Industrial Hygienist – Citywide Exam (SFDPH)

About the role

The San Francisco Department of Public Health is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to support citywide occupational safety and health initiatives. This permanent, onsite position works across hospitals, clinics, and other public facilities to monitor and control hazardous materials and environmental risks.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine industrial hygiene monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents in city facilities.
• Serve as a technical advisor on occupational safety and health regulations for departmental management and external partners.
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend corrective actions for hazardous material storage, use, and waste remediation.
• Develop, modify, and maintain health and safety programs, policies, and incident response procedures.
• Coordinate investigations of health and safety hazards and collaborate with city departments, agencies, businesses, and the public to implement remedial actions.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or certification in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental health, or a related field.
• Experience conducting industrial hygiene surveys and interpreting monitoring results.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local occupational safety and health regulations.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
