Highway Maintainer – Sangamon County – Riverton Team

About the role

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintainer to join the Sangamon County Riverton Team. This full‑time, salaried position involves operating CDL‑class vehicles and performing a variety of road‑maintenance tasks to keep our highways safe and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Operate Class A CDL‑licensed vehicles for road‑maintenance duties.
• Perform labor related to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of roadways, bridges, and related structures.
• Assist with snow and ice control during winter weather conditions.
• Maintain roadside and right‑of‑way areas, including removal of trash, dead animals, and debris.
• Carry out routine housekeeping duties at the headquarters office.
• Maintain accurate on‑the‑job records and documentation.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the role.

Required profile

• Valid Class A CDL with an N or X endorsement.
• Authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
• Availability to work Monday‑Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with a ½‑hour lunch break.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical examination, drug and alcohol testing, and ongoing random testing.
