Health and Wellness Director

About the role

The Health and Wellness Director leads all health and wellness programming for the Dorchester YMCA, overseeing the membership department and ensuring high‑quality, safe services for adults, youth, seniors and special populations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and oversee health and wellness programs across all departments, aligning with community needs and YMCA standards.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate the Assistant Director, wellness consultants, group‑exercise instructors and volunteers.
• Integrate health, wellness and membership initiatives for children, teens, adults and special populations.
• Manage annual budgets, program enrollment, retention, payment records and reporting.
• Supervise water and land group‑exercise programming and deliver at least ten hours of direct service (personal training, group exercise or chronic‑disease programming).
• Coordinate annual special events and maintain a clean, safe program environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or a related field.
• Minimum two years of experience instructing related programs and two years of supervisory experience.
• Experience in personal training, health‑and‑wellness programming and internal marketing/special events.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Personal trainer certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Child Abuse Prevention training.
